What is the secret behind FMAV’s success throughout the years? Our people! They make us who we are today and who we will be in the future.  As Canada’s largest independently owned audiovisual company, FMAV has more than 250 staff across seven offices from coast to coast, and it’s our people who make us a different kind of Audiovisual Company.

Because our people make the difference… we thought we’d tell you more about them in an Employee Spotlight series and how they’ve helped us become a leader in the events industry and Canada’s Favorite Audiovisual Company.

In this Employee Spotlight series, you’ll get a glimpse at one featured employee each month. What makes them tick? Why do they come to work each day? And what do they look forward to doing when they leave the office?

This month, we talked to Joel Reodica about his role here at FMAV, his passion for emerging technologies, as well as how he fills his time when he’s not at work. Here’s what he had to say:

What is your current role and how long have you been working at FMAV?

My current role at FMAV is a Solution Specialist and have been working here for 11 years. I’ve always had the freedom to explore and learn at FMAV. My role has evolved over the years to suit my skills and changing needs of the industry.  I started in audio, and over the course of my career at FMAV I’ve been able to diversify my knowledge and develop my skill set on many AV technologies such as sound, visuals, photography, videography, and projection mapping.  This has led me to a career in digital solutions where my focus now is supporting clients and our marketing department.

What made you want to get into the field?

Before joining FMAV, since I loved computers, I applied for a job at the Apple store. While being stuck in traffic on my way to the interview, I had an epiphany – Why sell tools when I can use them to create! That’s when I found about FMAV and applied for a job as the audio technician over 11 years ago.

Tell us about your start at FMAV?

I started out as an audio tech. I learned about the world of events and the need to stay 4 steps ahead of the technology I love. Working closely with events and event planners made me understand the importance of communication. I always had an interest in creating digital content and videos and followed my heart.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The best thing about event industry is that it’s continuously evolving which is also my mantra in life. I love that I get to travel, have access to a breadth of technological inventory to play with and a new challenge with every event. Most of all, I love that I can count on my team to support me through these challenges.

What do you like to do in your spare time? What are your hobbies?

I have an amazing wife and three black rescue cats at home.  When I’m not working I love to walk around the city with my camera, exploring new neighborhoods and capturing photos.

I was the student council president and unofficial technical support in high school. I took apart all my toys as a kid, to reverse engineer them. Photography was always my passion; if not an event professional, I would have been a travel photographer.

Joel is one of over 250 valued employees at FMAV, all of whom are in Canada. You can learn more about the FMAV culture on our website, or visit the FMAV Careers page to hear more from our people.
