Share Kayla’s story and bring awareness to Organ Donation

July 26, 2012

If AVW-TELAV Toronto Account Executive Jason Tremblett had just one wish, he would offer it to his 14-year-old niece. “Kayla has a clear calling and she is taking charge of her destiny,” he says of the brave young girl.

At just 18 months old, Kayla Baker was diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma and had a large tumor that was touching every major organ in her body. Fortunately, after 10 long and hard rounds of chemo, the tumor was destroyed.

Kayla lived the carefree life of a typical child for about 10 years, until her doctor observed symptoms of concern. Several tests determined her lungs were steadily losing the ability to function—they are currently performing at a mere 19 per cent, causing Kayla to rely on the assistance of an oxygen tank.

On April 1, 2011, Kayla’s name was added to the transplant list to receive a new set of lungs—15 months later, she is still waiting for that call.

However, Kayla is not giving up. She is sharing her story with the world, and in the process, hopes to help many others by bringing awareness to organ donation.  Jason and Kayla are planning a “Fun Run” in the fall, and eventually, they plan to host a gala fundraising event for Organ Donation Awareness. We’ll keep you posted on event dates.
