Because our people make the difference, we thought we’d tell you more about them, and how they’ve helped us become a favorite in the events industry, in an Employee Spotlight series.
In this series, you’ll get a glimpse at one featured employee each month. We will talk about what makes them tick, why they come to work each day and what they look forward to doing in their free time?
This month we talked to Rob Doak about his role here at FMAV, his passion for the events industry and his secret talents. Here’s what he had to say:
What is your current role and how long have you been working at FMAV?
I am a Senior Technician, at FMAV, and have worked for the company for the past 8 years. I provide expertise and advice to our FMAV and to our clients on how we can best use our products to create great events.
Tell us about your start at FMAV?
I began as a Technician at MediaCo in 2011, about 3 years before they merged with Frischkorn, and have quickly progressed into other opportunities within the company. FMAV works on the types of events that I am passionate about: Live Events, needless to say, it became an environment where I have been happy to stay.
What made you want to get into the field?
Live events and AV became an extension of what I have always done. I started at CTV in engineering in 1995 where I had the luck of working in a number of live and mobile positions. I owned my own corporation for ten years and had the opportunity to work with some amazingly creative people. When kids came along I spent a few years transferring out of the film industry so that I would be there as they grew up. Live media broadcasts and live events are very similar, so it was only a natural balance for me to use my passions in the Live event world.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The ability to work with the best quality clients, equipment, and colleagues in the industry. I enjoy working with clients to find new and innovative solutions, and I really like helping fulfil visions by having creative input into finding ways to produce great events.
Tell us something about your personal life. What do you like to do in your spare time? What are your hobbies?
Outside of work I’m happily married, father of two boys, and dog owner. Current hobbies include brewing and drinking beer, cider, and wine. I try to make time to freestyle whitewater Kayak and camping in the summer and do some snowboarding in the winter. I also enjoy playing board games.
